Bake these Italian traditional Chocolate Bread buns. These Pane al Cioccolato buns are vegan and made with wholesome ingredients. The best breakfast paired with nut butter and jam or fresh fruit. You can bake them on weekends and toast, or reheat them in the microwave for the week.
Wholesome Ingredients for these Vegan Chocolate Bread Buns:
- Whole Wheat Flour and 00 Wheat Flour (or Plain Flour)
- Warm water
- Active Dry Yeast
- Sugar (to activate the yeast)
- Cacao or cocoa powder
- Instant Coffee
- Chocolate chips
- Sea salt
- Non-diary milk
How to make these Vegan Pane al Cioccolato:
- In a bowl add the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Mix and let sit for 5 minutes while preparing the other ingredients.
- Add the flours, cacao powder, instant coffee into a large bowl and combine.
- Add the water mixture and mix together with your hands until a homogeneous dough.
- Knead the dough until smooth and incorporate the salt and chocolate chips. Knead and form a round shape.
- Place into the bowl, cover with a towel, and set in a warm place for 8-24 hours until it doubles in size. Tip: Turn on the oven light and put the dough in the oven with the door covered, it will have a constant temperature.
- Divide the dough into 6 balls. Form the bread balls. Let them rest on a baking sheet with baking paper for 2 hours. Tip: Repeat the trick of the oven light.
- Take the bread out of the oven, preheat the oven at maximum power and add a tray with water to the lower part of the oven.
- Brush each bread with non-dairy milk.
- When the water starts to boil, bake the buns for 15 minutes. After these 15 minutes, remove the tray with the water and let them bake for another 5 minutes to toast the outside.
- Remove the buns from the oven and let them rest on a rack until they are warm.
- Enjoy them plain or with your favorite nut butter and jam!

Decadent Vegan Chocolate Buns, traditional Italian Pane al Cioccolato made vegan and wholesome
Ingredients

Notes
Consume them the next morning by heating the buns in the microwave for 15 seconds or toasting them a little.
Store the buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
